The RT58 Euro-club

The roots of the RT58 Euro-club date back to the 1970s when links were first established between the Tablers of Smethwick RT58 and those of Nivelles 58 in Belgium.

Regular exchange visits were made between the two tables and soon the "chain of friendship" established where a shield with a link of chain was presented to the visiting Table. At each subsequent meeting the Table holding the shield would present it to the other with another link added to the chain. The shield still passes between Smethwick & Oldbury RT58 and Nivelles 58 and now features in excess of a metre of chain!

With Tabling a growing activity in Europe, and several '58' Tables established across the continent, it was decided in the late 1980s to expand the Euro-club and invite all the '58' clubs to one meeting. Smethwick RT58 hosted the first event in 1989 and since then the Euro-meeting has become part of the annual Table calendar with events being hosted in eight different European countries.

Those who take part in Euro-meetings will readily testify that some of the best Tabling activity and fellowship of their Table careers has been had at '58 club' international meetings.
